Beach Trip 2012

We spent the past few days on the Bass Family Vacation with Meme and Grandpa and the Vaughts.  We had a wonderful time being together, eating yummy seafood, and stepping away from the day to day routine at home.

We joined Meme and Grandpa in Point Clear, AL at The Grand Hotel for one night and 1/2 a day on our way down and it was gorgeous!!  David Franklin had such a great time there at the pool and the beach on the bay, he said I don't want to leave the Alabama beach.  They had a golf course there that Franklin was very interested in checking out another time.

Then we all ventured down the panhandle a bit to Mexico Beach, FL for a few days.  Franklin and I had never been there before.  It was a calm, clean beach and being there almost felt like stepping back in time. It was throw back, and had characater and a nostalgic feel.  Where we stayed, we were very close to the water and sat out on the porch for meals and togetherness time. (Where we would also hide away from summer showers)  We spent a lot of time on the beach playing in the sand, riding boogie boards, playing in the waves, doing a little reading, and crab hunting.  David Franklin caught his first crab and he was so proud and called himself a "mighty, real, crab hunter."  He seemed to grow up and gain some independence this trip Franklin and I both noticed.  He enjoyed being with his cousins so much and would want to do anything they did.  He loved the sand, and  Nora loved the water. She would try to run straight towards it and kick her legs in delight in the waves.  She got her first taste of salt water and I think she's now a beach baby!
The men and Robbie went deep sea fishing and caught king mackrel that Grandpa grilled for lunch one day and it was quite tasty.  David Franklin and Nora were fans too.  Nora ate quite an array of seafood, scallops, fish, shrimp, etc. She's such a good little eater.  She had strep throat before we left and caught a nasty cough and runny nose while we were there that turned into two ear infections and a bad case of diaper rash.  If that girl could only go on one vaction healthy, I swear we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves!  She is such a tropper, and I'm so proud of her I can't even articulate it.  She has such a sweet, gentle spirit, even when she feels crummy.  If she was in her daddy or my arms, she was ok, so that is where she spent a lot of her time...especially at night.  She also didn't mind snuggling with her Meme :)

Our trip was very slow paced, and casual. I never wore shoes other than my flip flops, and the kids hardly wore shoes at all!  David Franklin did most of his playing without a shirt and sand stuck to our skin somewhere was a constant.   We always enjoy being together as a family and the time the kids got to spend together with their cousins is invaluable.  Memories of a lifetime.  Thank you Meme and Grandpa for inviting us and taking such good care of us!!
